Before you start

It is important to checkwooden floorbefore giving birth. If you find any defects, DO NOT INSTALL THE FLOOR. First, talk to your provider to determine the best route to take. Many manufacturers will not claim warranty if faulty flooring is installed.

It is not uncommon to find what appears to be very light around the edges and especially the corners of laminate flooring. This will be mostly superficial as the machining may create minor flaws along the lift system which will not affect the quality or performance of the floor. However, large areas of damage or large areas of damaged click systems are cause for concern and you should contact your supplier before proceeding with installation.

Site conditions for laying parquet

Poor floor condition is the number one reason laminate flooring fails. Learning how to lay laminate flooring is only really important after checking the site conditions. The most important checks to perform are moisture and subfloor. It is always the installer’s responsibility to determine if site conditions are acceptable, although you may wish to check this for yourself before purchasing a floor. This mandatory test must be performed as follows:

  • The humidity should be between 45% and 65%. This can be checked with a hygrometer. We recommend that you read our guide to
  • Humidity and wooden floors
  • .
  • Concrete or wood subfloors should have a moisture content of no more than 12% MC on a surface test, or less than 3% on a more common concrete moisture meter. NB Different meters have different scales, so it is important to check their documentation.
  • Subfloor levels should not exceed 3mm over a distance of 1m in any direction. This should be checked and measured with a ruler and gauge before starting installation. Uneven floors should be leveled with planks, plywood or self-leveling products.

Your supplier will likely not be responsible for laminate flooring installation issues if they find evidence of improper working conditions. If you are unsure of any of this please contact us at Wood Flooring Warehouse and we will be happy to help.

How to adapt a laminate floor

Only when the right site conditions are met can you adapt laminate flooring. Store your laminate floor in its packaging and lay it flat on the floor in the installation room. Most manufacturers require 48 hours of acclimatization, but read the instructions to make sure you have the correct amount of time.

If you are installing laminate flooring over underfloor heating, ensure that each floor pack is laid separately on the floor. Do not stack boxes. Also check the manufacturer’s instructions for any specific requirements related to fitting underfloor heating. Some manufacturers may require a longer acclimatization period.

During acclimatization, living conditions should be normal in the room with the heating on. Your laminate floor will not adapt properly if the room is cold or if wet work such as painting or plastering is carried out around it.

After acclimatization, your laminate may expand or contract very little. It is also not uncommon to see arcs in each plank. Don’t worry, this is not a defect. It is simply an HDF laminate core that adapts to the temperature and humidity of the site.

For more information on this, read our article on –How to stabilize wooden floors.

How to lay parquet?

Always read the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions before installation. Learning to lay laminate flooring is generally done the same way, but often requires specific methods for certain types of flooring.

Make sure all existing flooring and underlayments are removed to create a level foundation before beginning installation. Since there should be an opening around the outside of any wood floor, you have the option of removing your existing baseboards, installing the new floor, and then reinstalling your baseboard. Or, use a cord to cover the gap after installation.

Laminate flooring is quick and easy and can be installed in most areas of any home (usually excluding wet rooms). We recommendClick Vinyl FlooringWherewater resistant parquetin wetlands.

Floating using an underlay is the most common method as it can be mounted over any type of subfloor. It is very easy to DIY and does not require any training or experience. Laminate flooring just needs to be assembled without glue. Different levels will click in different ways, so make sure you understand how the levels link together before you start.

Laminate flooring

It is important to use the correct typewooden flooring. For concrete subfloors, you must use a primer with a moisture-proof membrane. You can view our range at -Concrete flooring. and on a wooden subfloor discover our range ofunderlayment for wooden subfloor. There are different features and benefits for each, such as leveling and isolation.

Installation of laminate flooring

After installing the coating begins to click the floor together. Start from a straight wall and place your first order by joining all the fascia boards. The first plank should be 1/2 table then continue along the row. Use spacers to ensure you maintain a 10mm distance from the wall. If you don’t have spacers, some cuts of your flooring will work.

Now start the next line with a complete table. This will ensure you have regular joints. You can use shortcuts to start rows in the future, as long as the joints are more than 300mm apart. When the joints are too close together, it often gives a bad appearance and can affect the durability of the installation. Continue this process until you get to the other side of the room, making sure to leave a 10mm gap around everything.

Expansion Gap for laminate flooring

This includes:

  • all walls
  • Radiator tube
  • Frames
  • baseboard
  • Stairs
  • Other floors
  • Kitchen furniture

Once the floor has been installed, you can hide the perimeter gap using a cord (also called Scotia) or skirting which must be at least 12 mm thick to avoid any possible shrinkage. In addition, expansion joints should be left at doors through which the floor passes from one room to another and against any other obstacles such as stairs or radiator pipes. A laminate store like Wood Floor Warehouse has a wide selection of door bars and accessories to match your floor and cover large openings.

Do not place anything too heavy (more than 200 kg) on top of the wooden floor, as this can restrict movement and cause problems with the top. Often the flooring can be installed under a frame or rabbet. This will generally include:

  • Kitchen furniture
  • Unity Island
  • grand piano
  • stone fireplace
